Highland Beach History
The history of present-day Highland Beach real estate dates back to 1949 when it was incorporated and named for the height of the land which rose 20 to 25 feet above high tide at that time much higher than other portions along the barrier island. Highland Beach homes for sale continue to provide incomparable serenity and seclusion among natural splendor with balmy weather that allows its residents year-round swimming and boating, or cycling and jogging. Early risers wake up to watch the sunrise with their toes in the sand while night owls watch the sunset over their boats docked on the Intracoastal.
Highland Beach experienced a condo building boom during the 1980's with several new buildings erected along the coastline. A Canadian developer built Villa Nova and Villa Magna which at the time were some of the most exclusive condo buildings on Highland Beach. When Boca Highlands Beach Club and Marina was built in the early 1980's, it was the first of it's kind, offering residents a beachfront club and pool area. Even today, it's one of only three communities in Highland Beach that has a private beach club.
